About Illinois for EducationAl Equity
Illinois for Educational Equity (ILEE) is a membership-driven, issue-based community organization that builds power by organizing teachers, families, community leaders to advance policies that will lead to a more equitable education system for students in our state. It is led by a diverse group of volunteer Regional Strategy Team members, most of whom have experience teaching or leading in schools. Many of our members are current teachers who advocate for and with their current and former students in this organizing space.

What have we done?
What is our current focus?
- Organizing an equitable increase in state funding for K-12 budget including a $250 million increase just for low-income students.
- The inauguration of the first-in-history implicit bias training for Chicago Public School’s 1500 school security officers.
- Ensuring that a diverse range of potential students had access to early childhood educator programs at Chicago City Colleges by pushing for the operation of satellite programs is two strategic locations in the City.
What is our current focus?
- ILEE is currently organizing around two critical educational equity issues:
- Ending the School-To-Prison Pipeline
- Access to Early Childhood Education
- After a major win on our Early Childhood Education platform, we are shifting focus to the School to Prison Pipeline. Throughout Spring and Summer 2019, we are engaging in "research actions" by meeting with district leaders, researchers, and practitioners to explore possible issues to take up as our next platform. Based on these meetings, we will refine our platform and then move into the advocacy phase of the organizing cycle.
